In the project HAKA-Huippueläimet
Pohjois-Savosta (HAKA-top class animals from Northern Savo) we concentrated
on establishing transfer of embryos, marketing and piloting.
The brand of HAKA was strengthened by
introducing into market quality embryos and breeding animals. The
marketing of animals was promoted through display of animals, shows and
marketing material.
We investigated the usefulness of
sex determined fresh embryos preserved over night and with help of sex
sorted sperm the amount of good female calves was increased. In connection
with a mating plan a section illustrating the genetic trend in herd level was developed.
The project was part of a project entity of the
Maito-osaamiskeskus (milk knowhow center) Maito-Savo of Northern Savo and was carried out by the Aluekehityssäätiö (Regional Development Foundation), ProAgria Suomen Kotieläinjalostusosuuskunta (Finnish Animal
Breeding Association), ProAgria Jalostuspalvelu (ProAgria Breeding
Service), University of Kuopio, MTT Jokioinen (MTT Agrofood Reserch) and
the Cattle Club of Northern Savo. The project was financed by the TE-keskus
of Northern Savo (government and EMOTR) municipalities of Northern Savo,
Cattle Club of Northern Savo, FABA and the farms participating.
The project operated during the years 2000-2006 and proceeds as a production of HAKA-embryos.
